Day 1 : Monday
Head north along the eastern side of Spencer Gulf stopping at historical coastal towns. Learn about our rich maritime history and take a stroll down the longest wooden jetty in the Southern Hemisphere at Port Germain. This was once a bustling port for sailing ships & sea-farers. Enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch at Mt Remarkable National Park surrounded by stunning 600 million year old rock formations and an abundance of native wildlife. If you enjoy bushwalking we will take you on a one hour guided walk along beautiful tree-lined creek beds with spectacular views of the area. We continue our journey across one of the oldest mountain ranges on earth, through the picturesque Pichi Richi Pass to Quorn. With its typical outback buildings and the original Ghan Railway station, it has been the setting for many iconic Australian films. Follow in the path of our early explorers and head to Warrens Gorge Conservation Park to search for the rare and elusive Yellow-Footed Rock Wallabies. Dramatic rock outcrops harbour these endangered wallabies with only an estimated 8,000 living in the wild. Sit back in the 4WD as we head along the rough and dusty outback tracks through the deserted Willochra Plain where eagles soar and emus run free. Wander around ghost towns with their early history of hardship where pioneers survived temporarily but eventually gave way to the unforgiving desert conditions. Final destination today is Wilpena Pound or Rawnley Park Resort situated at the entrance to the famous Wilpena Pound.

After marvelling at the wonders of this mammoth inland salt lake we will land at the outback town of William Creek (population 4 at last count). Experience lunch at this remote pub where the local stockmen gather. Make the return trip back to Wilpena Pound over the Andamooka opal fields and Lake Torrens. Travel in the 4wd through the rugged creek beds of Brachina Gorge. This is an area alive with wildlife and boasts a remarkable geological history including Ediacaran fossils dating back millions of years. The world-renowned South Australian painter Sir Hans Heysen was inspired by this country and painted many of his landscapes here. After a picnic lunch immerse yourself in the ancient landscape; take that special photograph or just enjoy some of the most spectacular outback scenery Australia has to offer, including Stokes Hill Lookout.

Join your Australian Eco Guide on a one hour bushwalk to an Aboriginal art site where the Adnyamathanha people created rock paintings depicting their ceremonies over thousands of years.
